Indiana University is the leading campus of the whole University system. Also, it is famous as Indiana University Bloomington, or Indiana, or just IU, as it is placed in Bloomington, the state of Indiana.
The University has 110 educational programs ranked in the top 20 of the country. 29 graduate programs and 4 colleges at IU are ranked amongst the nation’s top 25 in the U.S. News and World Report’s Top Graduate Schools 2001-2002. Time named the University its “College of the Year 2001″ amongst leading research universities. Also, it is one of about60 members of the American Universities’ Association, the major American research universities. IU’s intercollegiate athletic program has 25 national championship teams comprising 7 in soccer, 6 in swimming and 5 in basketball as well as 133 individual national championships comprising 31 in track and field plus 79 in swimming.
Indiana University’s student enrollment in the autumn semester of the year 2007 was 38,990 students. The University’s freshman experience was accepted by U.S. News and World Report in the year 2003 as amongst the top in the country. The 10th yearly Newsweek-Kaplan College Guide that appeared in the 2005 publication of Newsweek magazine selected the University as the “Hottest Big State School” plus extolled the campus’s mixture of tradition with up-and-coming technologies.
